Chapter 5

She’s Watching Him Watching Her

In the eastern part of Seiva, at Dawnmoon Station.

The night breeze was a bit chilly.

Filin made a brief stop here while waiting for his third bus transfer.

Because the popsicles here were two crowns cheaper than anywhere else.

Tonight, Adeline looked like her left and right brains were having a boxing match—neither side winning.

Exhausted.

Being surrounded by beautiful girls is quite the hassle.

Filin sat on a bench at the station, waiting for the next bus.

The platform was always lively, while the VIP area nearby was as quiet as if it were another world.

Several attendants briskly walked around, as if preparing for some important reception.

Looks like yet another noble had arrived at the station.

Lately, for the party of Miss Viloti Sirafel, there had been more nobles coming and going than usual.

“What a big spender,” Filin muttered to himself.

As Filin looked back at the night sky, he noticed a few attendants laboriously moving the Sirafael Family’s giant emblem into the reception room.

“Daddy!”

A little girl with pigtails squeezed her way out from the crowd, setting aside a small cart hanging around her neck and clinging tightly to Filin’s leg.

“Lina, I’m not your dad.”

Filin ruffled the girl’s hair, chuckling helplessly.

His clients were scattered across Seiva, and over time, he had become familiar with the girl who sold things here.

“What about that green-eyed, really pretty mom?”

“She hasn’t come back yet.”

Lina was talking about the client he had dropped off last week.

Daiyi Orelian.

【Absolute beauty】

【Satisfy all her requests, and never leak any conversation with her】

【Must be a big shot】

That’s Filin’s file on Daiyi.

When Filin first got the job, he thought this mysterious lady might be into Ais Aimu.

Ais wasn’t off the table, as long as the money was right.

After all, there weren’t any tightrope walkers in this world—Filin had checked.

After interacting with Daiyi, he found she was less interested in Ais than he initially thought.

Unlike Viloti’s icy stare, Daiyi seemed like a high-and-mighty goddess, sizing up everyone in the world with an utterly rational gaze.

She even knew all about his clients—Viloti, Adeline, and even the recent hotshot idol and luxury goods tycoon.

He felt like he had zero privacy in front of her—everything seemed to be laid bare.

She enjoyed watching Filin dance around the girls, sitting on her throne, relishing her twisted amusement.

“What a pity, I wanted to see that pretty mom again. When will she be back?”

“Next week.”

Daiyi would be returning to Seiva next week, and the brief peaceful times would come to an end.

“I see my dad looks exhausted. How about a popsicle? I’ll give you one.”

Lina released Filin’s leg and struggled to open her little cart, which had a cheap spell seal for refrigeration stuck on it.

“Thanks, Lina.”

While Lina wasn’t paying attention, Filin slipped ten crowns into her cart.

“Next time you pick up that pretty mom, make sure to come find me, I want to see her again.”

“Okay, of course! Lina’s popsicles are the best at Dawnmoon Station!”

Lina bounced away, her patched-up old skirt swaying as she moved.

A train whistle cut through the night as the train pulled in.

Filin quickly finished the popsicle, stood up, and prepared to head back.

As he turned around, he saw a familiar figure.

A knee-length cream-colored dress showcased beautiful curves, with delicate blue patterns on the hem resembling cornflowers blooming in morning dew.

Pink hair casually tied with a silver ribbon draped gently over her ear, a scarf in matching tones around her neck added a touch of lazy elegance.

Adorable!

Viloti Sirafel.

The moment Filin turned, he found this young lady staring intently at him.

Who knows how long she had been standing there!

She probably thought he was stalking her to the station again.

They were close enough that Filin could smell her hair’s faint fragrance—a scent like dew dripping on petals, sure to leave an unforgettable memory in any boy’s heart.

Viloti didn’t open her mouth; she was waiting for Filin to explain.

Filin knew she was waiting for him to make the first move because it was always like that. Every time she found him, he’d have to come up with a bunch of excuses to express his true feelings.

In this regard, they had a certain unspoken chemistry.

“Good evening.”

Filin greeted her, only receiving a nod in reply.

“I’m heading home, see ya.”

Filin waved and turned to leave.

Viloti tugged at her scarf, covering her mouth.

“You didn’t come tonight.”

“What?”

He stopped in his tracks, like he’d heard an alien language.

“You didn’t bring me cheese milk.”

After learning that the cheese milk Viloti liked wasn’t available in Seiva, Filin went through countless resources to make some himself.

The process was a colossal pain, but thankfully, Viloti liked it.

She had refused all of Filin’s gifts except for the cheese milk.

So, practically every afternoon, Filin had to deliver cheese milk to Viloti.

Not just because he was trying to kiss up, but because this lady actually paid him—a whopping two hundred crowns a bottle!

The cheese milk only cost him five crowns.

“Money, I’ll give you.”

Viloti pulled out a pink unicorn-emblazoned wallet from her coat pocket, retrieving one thousand crowns.

“Well, uh, I’m not making it anymore.”

“Eh?”

Viloti tilted her head slightly, her arm still outstretched with the money.

“It’s a hassle to make, and it probably bothers you, right?”

When Viloti heard this, she slowly clenched the money tightly, her arm dropping naturally.

She looked down at Filin’s toes.

“I’ll be leaving now, it’s getting late, or I’ll miss the last bus.”

By the time Viloti looked up, Filin had already vanished from sight.

All around were fuzzy faces, like a watercolor painting drenched in rain, blending into mottled colors under the lights.

Viloti silently stowed the money into her wallet, gazing in the direction Filin had departed, letting out a sigh.

She had come to the station to meet her uncle and his family, who were abroad.

Instead, she stumbled upon Filin, thinking he had some secret info about her and was trying to run into her.

Her pink hair was tousled by the night wind, dancing in the air.

The wind, having just rained, was a bit chilly, causing her to instinctively hug her arms tighter.

Viloti watched Filin display such calm tenderness when faced with that little girl.

It turned out, she had never truly understood the real Filin.

Or rather, Filin had never given her the chance to know the real him.

Filin grabbed the bus’s handrail, gazing at the colorful light river outside the window.

It felt like by finishing off this deal with Viloti tonight, he had knocked over the dominoes, causing his whole world to flip upside down.

“Better get some sleep early tonight.”

Watching his reflection in the glass shimmer past the buildings, Filin smiled wearily at himself.

Tomorrow was the big joint hunting event.

He wanted to get into the Royal Academy and break free from his current life.

No more watching clients’ expressions and no more pretending in those ridiculous plays.

“Hope tomorrow goes smoothly.”
