“I’m coming, I’m coming! I almost got hit in the butt with an arrow!”
Ariel dodged the arrows shot from behind while weaving through the complex streets of the lower city, trying to shake off her pursuers.
But those rats and thugs looked ready to kill; no matter how hard Ariel tried to escape, they would never give up.
They were more familiar with the streets of the lower city, so every time Ariel thought she had lost them, those guys would catch up through some unexpected shortcut.
“Sure enough, having a helper would make this a lot easier, wouldn’t it?”
Ariel let out a sigh, feeling a bit irritated at that clueless guy from earlier.
Although he clearly looked like a noble young master who didn’t roam the lower city, he could still serve as a distraction at a crucial moment.
As long as she could succeed, sharing a couple of drops with him wouldn’t be a problem. Do I look like the type to hog everything?
However, at this point, whether she had help or not didn’t matter anymore.
Ariel looked at the metal container in her hand, her eyes sparkling with joy.
Dragon’s Blood, secured!
Not a penny spent!
Is there anything in this world sweeter than getting something for free?
Of course there is!
That is being able to show off after getting it for free!
Suddenly, Ariel clenched her fist, and the giant sword wrapped in white bandages appeared in her hand. With a casual swing, the “wild dog” rushing in to steal the Dragon’s Blood let out a wail as she smashed him into the nearby wall.
“Tsk, you think you can play black eating black at this level?”
Ariel scoffed, her pride swelling even more.
What does it mean to be professional? This is what professionalism looks like!
Perfect timing.
Perfect strategy.
Perfect escape route.
Even the pose for showing off was taken to the extreme.
Effortlessly, she had claimed the Dragon’s Blood that countless others had sought to steal.
Though there was the minor flaw of almost being hit in the butt with an arrow due to fewer people attracting hostility, was there anyone stronger than herself in the black eating black field?
No!
She had never failed at black eating black in her entire life!
Back when she was just a negligible illegitimate child, the white bread she ate was all obtained through robbing the bakery; that was how she’d done it!
“Still claiming the Dragon’s Blood is yours?”
At this moment, Ariel thought of that clueless guy again and found it even more amusing.
He was probably terrified by the chaos unfolding and was hiding somewhere, trembling!
“Hmm?”
While feeling smug, Ariel suddenly sensed a chill fast approaching.
With a swift step, she defied the laws of physics, twisting midair to easily evade the blade that had splattered out from the darkness.
“You are…”
Looking at the newcomer, Ariel raised an eyebrow slightly.
“You are that guy named Lorenzo, right? You actually caught up?”
“Don’t underestimate me, bastard!”
Lorenzo stepped out of the darkness with a fierce expression.
He appeared somewhat disheveled, his face smeared with blood, yet he stood tall, his magic armor glowing a brilliant blue, exuding a strong sense of oppression.
Behind him were his breathless subordinates and the remaining elite members of the Scarlet Fire Gang, now less than half their number.
“Kid, are you ready to pay the price for your actions?”
Lorenzo tightened his grip on the long knife, blood still dripping from the blade, showcasing his chilling murderous intent.
He had never been as disheveled as he was tonight.
Therefore, his murderous intent had never been as intense as it was tonight.
If he didn’t mutilate this little thief before him, he would find it hard to quell the hatred in his heart!
“Wow, quite scary, huh? But…”
Ariel tilted her head, glancing in another direction, “These guys don’t look so bad either.”
From the elongated shadows cast by the indifferent moonlight, the bloodied thugs emerged one by one. Most were injured, yet like beasts, the more severe their wounds, the fiercer they became.
Schurz stepped forward from among the thugs, no longer displaying the elegance of a noble. His beloved golden staff had long since vanished, and a half arrow was embedded in his shoulder, yet he seemed oblivious, his aged eyes fixated on Ariel, filled with madness and hatred.
“Are you on drugs?”
Ariel wrinkled her nose; she could smell something different coming from this group.
However, since these nearly senseless thugs had managed to find their way here, the other one would naturally not be absent.
On the rooftop, the infamous Rat King poked half his head out, first glancing at Schurz with a silent sneer, and finally looking at Lorenzo and Ariel, saying:
“Lorenzo, at this point, it’s pointless for us to fight; after it’s over, let’s split it fifty-fifty, shall we?”
His words effectively excluded the thugs from the deal.
Lorenzo didn’t respond immediately but looked up at the rats on the roof.
Due to the geographical advantages, these rats had incurred the least damage, seeming to have lost only a few, and most importantly, they still had enough crossbows and arrows.
Lorenzo bit his teeth hard, as if he wanted to swallow down this shame of losing fifty million altogether.
But he still saw the situation clearly, spitting out the word through gritted teeth: “Fine.”
“Ha ha, it would have been nice if you had been this generous earlier!” Sam let out a laugh that sounded unpleasant.
A muscle twitched on Lorenzo’s forehead; he tried hard not to look at Sam and shifted his gaze back to Ariel.
He glared at the little thief before him, unable to differentiate between genders, his expression dark enough to drip water:
“Little thief, have you thought about how you’ll die?”
“Oh, do you think you’ve got me cornered?” Ariel replied, somewhat amused.
“What else could it be?”
Sam sneered from the side, “Kid, haven’t you realized that you’ve been driven into a dead end by us?”
Ariel glanced around in silence, the solid walls surrounding her, and behind her was seemingly the edge of the city.
Indeed, there was no way to escape.
But the smile hidden in the shadows of Ariel became even more radiant:
“How do you know I didn’t come here on purpose?”
“What?” Lorenzo frowned in suspicion. With everything that had happened tonight, he really was on edge, fearing this little thief might swipe her hand and suddenly summon a well-known gang from the lower city.
Now that would be fun.
However, Ariel naturally wouldn’t engage in gang summoning; instead, she stood on her tiptoes, joyfully twirling in circles, her hands sweeping around:
“Look, this place.”
“So quiet, so secluded, so far from human habitation.”
“And most importantly, it’s… far from that bridge, far from any guard post.”
“Do you understand what I mean?”
Ariel smirked, revealing her signature rebellious smile:
“Here, I can fully unleash my power!”
Ariel’s gaze transcended the hazy mist, looking towards the distant tower bridge, which was now barely visible.
Can you see it, you clueless punk?
The true essence of black eating black is having a fist that’s hard enough!
If you can’t even fight, what’s the point of playing black eating black?
“Hmph, arrogant little thief, just watch me…”
Lorenzo had intended to voice his disdain for Ariel’s statement, but at that moment, he heard the sharp whistle, echoing through the night like a ghost.
“Schurz!”
He turned back to glare at the hyenas: “Don’t go nuts here if you can’t even recognize your own mother!”
“No…”
Schurz, having lost his reason due to drugs, seemed to awaken at the sound of the whistle, his eyes regaining clarity but filled with intense fear.
“This isn’t our Hyena Gang’s signal, it’s…”
